Rights and Usage
The Old Colony History Museum strives to make its collections available to researchers, educators, and the public in support of our mission to interpret the area’s history in ways that are accessible, inclusive, and meaningful to local residents and visitors. If you wish to use text, images, audio, or video from our collection for commercial purposes, publications, broadcasts, documentaries, or any use beyond what is permitted under fair use, you must obtain written permission from the museum in advance. High-resolution digital images can be requested by filling out the permission form.
OCHM staff can offer reproductions of material in our collection if it can be done without damage to the original and if it is permitted by United States Copyright Law. To request permission to use and/or make a reproduction of an item in the collection, you will need to:
- Fill out the image request form using the button to the right.
- Once we receive your request, it will be reviewed by a staff member who will reach out with details, including any associated costs and a timeline for completion. We are happy to explain what can and cannot be reproduced, details of how we provide reproductions, and we will provide you with a quote for all the associated costs.
- Once you approve the project and payment is received, museum staff will deliver the reproduction and/or countersigned permission form.
- The Museum, though it owns the works in its collection, does not own the copyrights of all works. Permission to reproduce a work must be secured from the copyright holder as well as from the owner of the work. If the work you are requesting to reproduce is copyrighted, you must contact the administrator of the copyright.
